Pictura technica,[1] scilicet linearis, picturarum linearium componendarum est ars et disciplina quae modum quo res fabricata movetur aut construitur hominibus per oculos communicant.
Pictura technica communicationi notionum in industria et arte ingeniaria necessaria est. Ut picturae facilius intellectu sint, artifices technici symbolis perspectivis, unitatibus mensurae, systematibus notationis, modis visualibus, et designationibus paginarum normativis notisque utuntur. Tales consuetudines linguam oculorum simul constituunt ac praestant ut pictura certa facileque intellecta sit. Multa e symbolis principiisque picturae technicae normis internationalibus codificantur, quae ISO 128 una dicuntur.
Necessitas communicationis subtilis in singulis imaginis munere impleti rebus picturam technicam ab expressiva artium oculorum pictura distinguit, quia imagines artisticae per qualia interpretantur, permultis significationibus imbutis; picturis autem technicis est unica significatio destinata.[2]
Pictor technicus est homo qui adumbrationem facit, aut technicam aut expressivam. Pictor technicus professionalis qui picturas technicas facit aliquando artifex technicus appellatur.
